Roland-Garros 2022 – Stefanos Tsitsipas overthrows Lorenzo Musetti in five sets and goes to the 2nd round

Frightened but not dominated, Stefanos Tsitsipas rebelled. Pushed to the feat after the loss of the first two sets, the Greek finally overthrew Lorenzo Musetti, yet very well on his way to the next round on Tuesday (5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6 -2). A very important victory for Tsitsipas who avoids a cataclysm from the start of Roland-Garros and continues on his good momentum in this season on clay.

As the first match of the fortnight, facing Lorenzo Musetti could turn out to be a trap for Stefanos Tsitsipas. Despite a very good campaign on clay, the Greek was not completely infallible and the very aggressive game of Musetti could have shaken him up. And that’s what happened in the first two sets.

Very quickly, however, Tsitsipas broke. Leading 4-1 directly, he was finally pushed to his limits by the Italian, opportunistic and all the more aggressive than his opponent. Sometimes very good, even exceptional on his face-off, Musetti finally returned the set to win 7-5.

The second set was long dominated by the Italian who led by two breaks, 4-0. Finally slightly worried by a renewed energy from Tsitsipas, Musetti did not hesitate to win this second round.

It was obvious that the Greek was not going to let the meeting slip away without reacting. However, it is difficult to imagine that it would change so much in intensity. Much more aggressive, more killer especially on his serve, Tsitsipas left no crumbs to a dejected Musetti until the end of the match.

Repeating the same pattern three times over the next three sets, Tsitsipas proved to be imperial while Musetti no longer managed to express his genius. Dominated from head to toe, the Italian let the three sets slip by 6-2, 6-3, 6-1. Like an air of deja vu for Musetti who had experienced the same scenario last season against Djokovic against whom he had lost after leading by two sets. A reassuring victory for Tsitsipas who will have to recover from a huge fight in his first match in the tournament.
