The United States is concerned after the detection of 109 cases of infantile hepatitis of unknown origin, having caused the death of 5 children in the country.
For several weeks now, the mysterious childhood hepatitis is spreading around the world. The number of affected children continues to increase, as does the number of related deaths. However, the diligent research of scientists has still not been able to identify the origin of this disease.

Currently, there are more than 250 cases identified around the world. Already 4 children, mostly from Indonesia, are deceased of this serious hepatitis.
Although the disease originally developed in Europe, the UNITED STATES are today very strongly affected by this mysterious disease.

The United States at the center of concerns
US health authorities have explained that they are working on nearly 109 cases severe unexplained childhood hepatitis. The almost all of the children affected, more than 90%, had to be hospitalized.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also said that a fifteen children needed a liver transplant to survive. Of all American children affected, 5 would be dead.
A growing concern
The increase in the number of cases and deaths is of growing concern. If scientists explain that complications remain rarethe mystery concerning the origin of the disease fuels a growing anxiety within the population.

The doctor Markus Buchfellnera pediatric infectious disease specialist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham explained that for doctors: “It’s very strange to see a healthy child come in with the amount of liver damage these children had.”

However, Dr Meera Chanddirector of clinical and emerging infections in the UK explained that for parents, the only thing to do was “to be alert for signs of hepatitis – especially the jaundicewhich is easier to spot as a yellow tint in the whites of the eyes – and to contact your doctor if you are concerned”.
