IN PICTURES | A Tesla inexplicably catches fire at the impound lot

Firefighters in Sacramento, Calif., were called to put out a mysterious fire at a car pound earlier this month.

On June 11, a Tesla Model S that had been torn down in an accident three weeks earlier inexplicably caught fire. Firefighters struggled to extinguish the flames; they had to use no less than 17,000 liters of water to get there.

The vehicle’s battery was overheating and constantly rekindling the fire. Eventually, firefighters dug a hole around the car and flooded it.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
