In The Secret Life of Pets, Max is a pampered Terrier mix whose days are spent with his owner Katie. When she adopts Duke, a bigger and shaggier (oh, and did we mention bigger?) brown mutt from the pound, Max's carefree days are snatched away from him, along with his food, bed, and toys. His world turned upside down, the two clash heads and are taken on a wild but illuminating journey around New York as they try to get back home.

Max and Duke return in The Secret Life of Pets 2 with some new additions to their family: Chuck, an easy-going softie who finds love at first sight with Katie, and their son Liam, whom Max is determined to protect at all costs. When they go on a roadtrip to Uncle Shep's farm, they meet Rooster, a stoic but brave, no-nonsense farm dog, whose nonchalant outlook on life collides with Max's belief that he must shield Liam from the big and dangerous world around them.

Back in the city, Captain Snowball is called on a top secret rescue mission by Daisy, who witnessed a scared white tiger cub named Hu being forced into the circus life by his abusive owner, Sergei. Armed with wolves and a maniacal monkey, Sergei proves to be a tougher foe than any of the pets planned for.
