Aunt Louise BY DENNIS GARLAND Aunt Louise is on vacation, leaving the column in the hands of a beginner. But my pen will only touch the page briefly preceding two very good poems. The author, Connie Hopson, has won a national award for her poetry. She also happens to be my sister-in-law. On the Canvas of My Mind Painting your silouette on the canvas of my mind, So clear much unlike a fantasy in time.

Progressing with each stroke, to make the image clear, But sometimes often fading with the drop of every tear. To imagine that the picture upon the canvas made; May someday come to life and the picture never fade. The colors placed so voiced and containing so much meaning, As precious as the summer sun upon our kisses beaming. A sound of ringing chimes could be seen in every hue, Because the canvas proves a love expressed by only few. But such is just a painting having no true base or frame, Nothing to fall back on when you're tired of lifes old game.

How different I would paint on the canvas in my mind, "If" I knew it "wasn't" just a fantasy in time. But maybe not a painting; instead a flowing rhyme, No, still this is only, just a fantasy in time. may we thank God for our good times and their memories that follow but may we also be thankful for sorrow, for by this we know of happiness. Women's Editor's, note: Dennis Garland, who works in the ad department of the paper, is substituting for Aunt Louise, who is on vacation. Thursday found the traveling ad man at the wheel of his four cylinder station wagon exploring the interior of Cedar Creek.

Armed with a legal pad, a mat book, three completed layouts, a camera, and two rolls of film I began my foray in high spirits. Finding Malakoff sleeping lazily under the scattered clouds that 0C- casionally provided shade from the hot rays of the sun. Although not a particularly uncomfortable day, the sun had been somewhat of a stranger to us of late and would require a measure of conditioning of me. The afternoon began well at Donnell's Fashions as I presented what I considered a rather artful layout and mapped out my strategy to the proprietress. Concluding my business, I proceeded hastily to get lost somewhere far beyond Caney City.

In the service Milton Strange Having in my possession only a very crude hand-drawn map, I soon discovered that my ancestors had passed on not one of the qualities that had made them such peerless woodsmen. After several minutes and some reassessments of my map, my mind discovered what my subconscious had known for some time. I was 1 lost.

After several hours I managed to make my appointed stops at R.H. Lee park where I broke out my camera for some photographs of the lake, Star Tarbor, Package Store in Caney City, and one of the local auto dealers in Malakoff. limped back to Corsicana, My day, at an end, I slowly warrior coming home with: a victory yet unsure of the value of the prize.
