Apple lets us know that its new 13-inch MacBook Pro, powered by the new M2 chip, will be available for pre-order this Friday.
Announced at the same time as the new MacBook Air during the keynote held by Apple at the opening of WWDC 2022, the 13-inch MacBook Pro under Apple M2 processor is once again making headlines. Through a press release, Apple lets us know that the new version of its ultraportable will be available for pre-orders from this Friday, June 17, at 2 p.m. in France. Deliveries, meanwhile, will be effective globally a week later, on June 24th.
In other words, within a big week, Apple will make the power of its new M2 chip available to the general public. As a reminder, this new processor will arrive a few weeks later on the redesigned MacBook Air, announced on June 6th. It too can count on 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores in its high-end version… but it will probably be satisfied with a more limited autonomy than that of the new MacBook Pro 13.
MacBook Pro 13 “M2” 2022: a Mac that we know by heart!
For its MacBook Pro 13 M2, Apple speaks of an autonomy that can reach the milestone of 20 hours in video playback, and familiar with 17 hours in web browsing, thanks to a 58.2 Wh battery. Equipped with a slightly smaller battery (52.6 Wh), the new MacBook Air is limited for its part, and still according to Apple, to a maximum of 18 hours of video playback, against 15 hours ” only “ in web browsing. In both cases, the autonomy looks rather flattering compared to what the competition offers on the 13 / 14 inch formats. But we will obviously have to confirm this in testing.
Apart from its new processor and improved battery life, the MacBook Pro 13 M2 remains strictly identical to the previous model under the M1 processor. We find the same chassis, the same “Magic Keyboard”, the same 720p webcam, the same TouchBar (which still remains on this model) or the same 13.3-inch Retina screen (2560 by 1600 pixels, 100% DCI-P3 and 500 nits). The device can rely on 8 to 24 GB of unified memory and 256 GB to 2 TB of SSD. Its connectivity is finally limited to 2 USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Starting price ? 1599 euros for the basic model, equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD, against 2979 euros if you want the best possible configuration. A substantial sum, for a machine which, in absolute terms, evolves little outside of its new processor.
